I love international thrillers and read a ton of them. One of the things that really gets my attention is when something unique is thrown into the mix to enrich the reading experience. It could be a hint of the paranormal or something quirky. It doesn't really matter to me as long as it is an "outside the box" sort of story line and this is one of the things that has attracted me to author John Matsui. I read his debut novel, "Late Bite", several months ago and am still reeling from the experience. I was thrilled to get my hands on his latest release, "Gravity Games", and this one was very different but also didn't disappoint.

The story of Nathan Sherlock, or Nate the Nose, who is a famous chef and wine expert in the public eye, yet much more behind closed doors. Nate helps detectives and intelligence services "sniff out" bad guys with his incredible abilities and this lands him in the middle of a potential world-ending conspiracy. There are some seriously dangerous terrorists who have gotten their hands on both a scientist and his research with destructive capabilities. It is up to Nate and Bonnie to put a stop to things and this was a really intense and enjoyable adventure.

I think that Matsui is a talented writer in this genre as he has the ability to captivate his readers and pull them along seamlessly through a great sequence. The dialogue easily flowed and was oftentimes very humorous. This is a must read for anyone who loves a unique mystery story with some great adventure elements thrown in. Definitely recommend.

While this is not a sequel to the author's phenomenal first novel [bookLate Bite|22035362], it shares all the ingredients to make it equally successful. The writing is superior and you can definitely recognize the author's distinctive style which makes it so captivating. The whole book is overflowing with fresh ideas and original concepts I never read of before and therefore reading it was a highly entertaining adventure full of surprises. I loved that the story makes several references to 'Late Bite' and takes place in the same (Toronto) universe the author created back then.

The only minor criticism I may have is that there were almost too many sideshows and background stories. At times they threatened to put the main plot and especially the main character too far into the background. But then I rather prefer such an excessive outburst of creativity any given time (and book) and I definitely enjoyed making this journey.
