So we're supposed to believe the power/threat of Wickham's lies has kowed Darcy into leaving England--and more importantly, his sister--for 10 years? Every other Darcy in every other JAFF can at least figure out how to buy up Wickham's debts as leverage, so he could get Wickham sent to debtors' prison.

What happened in this book? A Mr Darcy on the run from Wickham? And if this Darcy is making all this sacrifice for Georie's future, then why would he not have kept her with him as he traveled the world? It makes no sense.

The Darcy Governess A Pride Prejudice variation as inspired by Brontë Jane Eyre edition by April Karber Marilyn Pesola Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

I will admit that I did not enjoy this story as much as I hoped. The parts of the book that were more like Jane Eyre were not handled well. The concept for the story was good. But the Jane Eyre obvious references strain ODC. At lease Cousin Anne was not crazy in the attic. I realize we who love fan fiction enjoy how various authors take literary license with ODC's personalities but this story makes Elizabeth too obtuse and Darcy as usual somewhat clueless to Elizabeth's feelings Wickham was a unless villain. Bingley and Caroline remained much the same. Unless I missed it I did not read the romance of Darcy's parents as it was alluded to. Read at your own risk
The premise of this variation caught my attention. However, it did not live up to my expectations. It started going downhill after Wickham' s ability to trick Lizzy and her unbelievable stay with Charlotte and Mr. Collins at her childhood home while never visiting her mother and siblings living with her Aunt Phillips. There are other absurdities that are too numerous to name.
Loved this book. After Pride and Prejudice, Jane Eyre has always been a favorite. Mr. Bennet has died and Lizzy and Jane go to London to live with the Gardiners. Jane stays to help her aunt and uncle with the children, and Lizzy sends out feelers for a job as a governess. One job was at the Darcys. Bumping into Georgiana and Mrs. Annesley on the street a letter is picked up with the Darcy's address. Both Mrs. Reynolds, Mrs. Annesley, and Georgiana love Elizabeth immediately. The meeting of the illusive Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth on the road from Lambton, was very well written. The gruff Orson Wells came to mind, but quickly morphed into Colin Firth - naturally because it is Fitzwilliam Darcy not Edward Rochester. He did have a big dog called Rochester and a horse named Pilot keeping with names from Jane Eyre. After Darcy realizes that Elizabeth is a good as she is, he falls in love with her and she him. Enter wicked Wickham to upset everybody associated with Pemberley causing Elizabeth to leave. Darcy has to find her to refute what Wickham said and to help recover Georgiana. Happy ending between Darcy - Elizabeth, and Bingley - Jane. Colonel Fitzwilliam is his usual gregarious self teasing his inept cousin while helping him win Elizabeth's love again. Caroline was Darcy's Blanche and shamed herself right out of Pemberley and Darcy House. There was no insane wife in the attic in this version.
While I enjoyed the book, the characters were very different from P&P. Everyone kept saying how witty Elizabeth was, but she said absolute nothing that was witty. In fact, her character seemed a little dense and naive...quickly changing opinions and believing anything that was told to her. Darcy was an ogre...I don't know if the author intended him to be more like Edward Rochester (from Jane Eyre), but he certainly wasn't Darcy. He was a little too bitter to me.

The other characters were barely developed and seemed more of an afterthought to keep with the P&P theme. I'm not even sure why Colonel Fitzwilliam was included if just to appear confused!

It was a quick read and everything was wrapped up just as quickly...all neat with no complications. Then the book ended...I do like a prologue to let us know how the characters progressed.

I nice read, but don't think of it as P&P cause it's definitely not.
I enjoyed the new path this book took, it was interesting and different. Sometimes when the author tries to follow the original P&P too closely it falls flat. What was not believable with the plot was Elizabeth believing Wickhams story, and then having such lack of faith with Darcy. I think the pain and shock on Darcy's behalf in the first meeting was nullified by Elizabeth perceived insult which in my opinion was justified and minor. Her reaction at this time didn't connect with me, therefore placing the whole storyline in doubt.

Why try to incorporate a dislike at the first meeting, why become so predictable in trying to copy the original books storyline. Please writers take your own path with writing, in doing so the book would have been more believable and therefore deserving of a top review score.
A very creative combination of Pride and Prejudice with Jane Eyre. The development of the parallel storylines was well thought-out. The characterizations were very interesting. I laughed a lot when I discovered that the dog was named "Rochester". Wickham was totally awful as should be expected -- no redeeming social value for HIM.
However, the author seems not to understand that horses are slower than automobiles, and the speed with which people whizzed back and forth from Derbyshire to London and points south somewhat spoiled the effect. Also, the timeline was vague -- apparently Victorian since several references were made to "The Queen" -- and yet, the surroundings didn't seem to match the era.
One more thing, the proofreading was awful, and the author really needs to work on her vocabulary -- a number of words were very poorly chosen, or their meanings not understood -- regimen and regiment are not at all the same thing.
Overall -- a good story worth enjoying.
